Online Students Must Complete Orientation

Although it’s easier than you think…

At Globe University/Minnesota School of Business (GU/MSB), all first time online students must complete the Orientation to Online Learning course before starting their first online class. This orientation will teach learners how to use Blackboard™, our online learning management system. The course will be facilitated in Blackboard™ by the campus Distance Education Coordinator (DEC) who is available to assist you with completing the online orientation successfully and preparing you to begin your first online class.

You can’t put it off…

All students should start the orientation course within 72 hours of the “orientation begins” date and should complete the course within two weeks of the date. The “orientation begins” date is set based on the date of the student’s course registration. You will be notified by e-mail when your online orientation is available. It’s important to check your e-mail so you don’t miss your online orientation. You won’t be able to take your online class until you complete unit one of orientation.

And you won’t be alone

If you have questions or problems with orientation, contact the online Help Desk. The staff has one aim—to help you succeed at online college classes. They are available more than 90 hours per week and can answer questions about system requirements and provide tips and tricks to help you get through online orientation. And your DEC is available to help you with any issue related to online orientation or your online coursework.

Goals of orientation

The goals of online orientation are simple:

  • Prepare students for online learning
  • Ensure that students understand minimum technical requirements for an online course
  • Provide students with the opportunity to “test drive” the learning environment

Make your life easier—finish the orientation!

Although you are only required to complete the first unit of orientation in order to access your class, we strongly advise that even after you’ve finished the first unit and have started your class you continue the orientation. Students report that they saved significant time and frustration because they knew what to do after completing the entire orientation.
