I have been practicing law for over 18 years. I have my Juris Doctorate degree from William Mitchell College of Law and my undergraduate degree in Political Science from Metropolitan State University. I am currently living in Yap, Federated States of Micronesia. Yap is a small island located about 3,500 miles southwest of Hawaii and 1,500 miles North of Australia. I have been working as the Public Defender in Yap. Public Defense and Criminal Defense have been the primary focus of my legal career, although in my private practice I took on several types of legal actions including family law, probate, bankruptcy and other litigation areas.

Hello and welcome to Globe University/Minnesota School of Business! I have taught various courses in the Criminal Justice online (CJ) program for many years and I hope your experiences here are as wonderful as mine have been.

I currently work full-time as a State Trooper with the Minnesota State Patrol. I am responsible for providing a safe and secure environment on the state freeways as well as enforcing traffic and criminal statutes. I have also conducted investigations regarding criminal vehicular operation, assaults, hit and runs, driving while intoxicated, domestic assaults, weapons violations and narcotic interdiction.

My previous experiences include working as a Deputy Sheriff for Hennepin County, where I provided police services in the Adult Detention Center and County Courthouse. I am currently pursuing a PhD in Education with an emphasis in youth violence, anticipating completing the degree next fall. I have a master’s degree in Law Enforcement Management and a bachelor’s degree in Law Enforcement. My students are free to contact me at anytime with questions or comments.

Michelle Smith

I hold a BA in both Sociology and Criminology and a JD from William Mitchell College of Law. Most recently, I worked as a consultant with various real estate firms training their employees and independent contractors on ethics and professional standards.
