Hybrid Classes: The Best of Both Worlds

What is a hybrid course?

Hybrid courses (known as blended courses in the MBA program) are courses in which a significant portion of the learning activities is online. Time traditionally spent in the classroom is reduced but not eliminated. The goal of hybrid courses is to join the best features of in-class teaching with the best features of online learning to promote active independent learning and reduce in-class time. Using computer-based technologies, instructors use the hybrid model to redesign some lecture or lab content into new online learning activities, such as case studies, tutorials, self-testing exercises, simulations, and online group collaborations.

At Globe University/Minnesota School of Business (GU/MSB), we offer a variety of hybrid classes. To learn more about your options, contact one of our campuses. Or, call our online division at 877-609-8889. They can advise you.

Why should you take a hybrid class at GU/MSB?

  • Students can have more flexible schedules
  • Students get the best elements of face-to-face instructions with the best aspects of online education
  • Students spend more time working individually and collaboratively on assignments, projects and activities
  • Students get a chance to try online classes without sacrificing face-to-face instruction
  • Students have the opportunity to learn and apply technological skills
  • Students have shorter commuting times and spend less on gas, babysitters or bus fare

Where do I sign up?

Each campus at GU/MSB decides which classes it will offer as hybrids. Unlike complete online programs, hybrid classes are offered at one of our bricks-and-mortar campuses. To find out if you can take a hybrid class at your campus or any of our locations, look at the class schedule guide. Hybrid classes are marked in the class schedule with an “H”. See the instructor for information about the days the class will meet on campus.

How do I get started?

You are required to take an online orientation course, as are students who take fully online classes. This will get you started and introduce you to all the tools available in Blackboard™, our online course management software. Our online Help Desk is just a click, phone call or e-mail away if you are stuck.
