Earn an Associate’s Degree Online in Paralegal Studies

Work with lawyers, judges and others in the legal system

Working in a law office as a paralegal or legal assistant can be exciting and intellectually challenging. Earning an online Paralegal associate’s degree will prepare you for positions such as these.  And because it’s online, your education doesn’t require you to leave your current job or endure an expensive commute.

Experienced provider of career education

At Globe University/Minnesota School of Business (GU/MSB), we offer a variety of online degrees and diplomas.  We have been educating people for careers since the 1870s and use that experience to design our online paralegal degree program.  An Advisory Board of attorneys and experienced paralegals helps us develop the curriculum.  They also review course content regularly to ensure that we always provide the best and most up-to-date training.  Employers know that we are committed to giving students the knowledge and skills that they need on the job.

If you think a career as a paralegal might be right for you, consider our online Paralegal Studies AAS degree.  Most people complete the course of study in 21 months of full time study, although some students can jump-start their degree programs by obtaining credit for prior learning and experience. Paralegal degree course content and requirements

As a paralegal or legal assistant, you will be conducting research, interviewing witnesses and clients, composing letters and other communications, and maintaining complex legal records. These and other tasks require knowledge of specific areas such as criminal law, probate, real estate and litigation. You will need good communication skills and a solid grounding in general education subjects — humanities, social sciences, mathematics and science.  Our online associate’s degree will provide you with the knowledge you need, positioning you for success in your chosen career.  An associate’s degree requires 108 credits divided between 78 credits of core courses and 30 credits of general education classes.

An internship that gives you practical legal experience

In addition to your coursework, you will complete an internship that will allow you to explore a particular area of legal practice.  This reflects current trends in medium and large law firms that often have paralegals specialize in specific practice areas.  Your coursework will help you decide which area would be best for your internship.

Moving forward

Your education does not need to stop with a two-year degree. Some of our students return to complete bachelor’s degrees online or on-campus.  All of their credits from their paralegal associate’s degrees will transfer seamlessly.  A BS degree in Paralegal Studies prepares graduates for more responsible positions within law firms or the court system.

A degree program based on 19th century distance learning schools

Our online associate degree program is rooted in the correspondence courses of the 19th century.  Distance learning has changed dramatically since the days when students mailed their assignments to the instructor and were lucky to receive any feedback.  Students in our online paralegal program have an extensive support system that is designed to ensure success.  They have access to an online library of books, journals and databases.  They have IM, chat and e-mail.  They benefit from our Blackboard™ course management software that facilitates contact among students and between students and faculty.  When you study online with us, you are not alone.
